Ten Project Entropia Dollars equal one real dollar - so a gamer left with 1,000 PED's after buying a new lazer cannon could withdraw $100.

In most multi-player online role-playing games, such as World of Warcraft, spending real money to buy virtual things is deeply frowned upon.

But Entropia, which has about 400,000 players, is based on the premise that items have real-world value.

One player, Jon Jacobs, sold almost everything he owned in the real world to buy a space station in the game for $100,000. By selling flats and storefronts to other gamers and by imposing taxes, he is now making $12,000 a month.
