Buying a Video Camera

Remarkable advances in technology really blow away the video cameras of just a few years ago. Today’s cameras are extremely light, offer advanced options to make any video look great, employ different ways to save and transfer video and have stability control that will take stable pictures even if you are on a horse. If you are in the market for a video camera here are some things to consider.

Today, there are three main types of video cameras sold, all of which are Digital video, meaning they are not analog. Digital video can easily be transferred to your computer or DVD. The are different types of media that these cameras use: They are Digital Video Tape recorders, High Definition video cameras and disc based camcorders. Digital video tape recorders are from the mid 1990’s and the oldest type of technology. High definition video recorders promise extremely high video resolution for playback on your DVD at home. And disc based camcorders record directly on DVD so it is easy to see your video as well as transfer it to your computer. There are also flash camcorders that record on a flash stick. While flash stick can be expensive, these camcorders are extremely small and allow you to transfer files quickly and easily from camera to computer.

Depending on what you would like to use your camera for depends on what kind of features you will need. For most family recordings any video camera will do. They all pack great standard features into most video cameras these days. Most cameras are small and weigh less than a pound. All cameras have digital zoom, which enlarges the pixels in digital pictures the camera takes, however, many people prefer optical zoom for better picture quality. Optical zoom is an actual lens that enlarges the picture for better clarity.

Many video cameras offer autofocus features which helps make the videos you take the best possible whether it is in a low light condition, or if you are taking video of high speed action.

There is a lot of information when determining which video camera to buy. Do a little research and you will be happy the next birthday that you tape or vacation that you are on. Video is a great way to save your memories and share it with your friends and family.
